Author Info - Shannon Messenger

She studied art, screenwriting, and screen production but she realized her true passion was writing books for younger readers. She hasn't only written KotLC. She has also written the Sky Fall series. She also has one kid. She's also 32 years old. She was born and raised in Southern California. The book series, KotLC, won the California Young Reader Medal.

  • KotLC Plot

Sophie Foster changed the game. Now she's facing impossible choices: when to act, when to trust, and when to let go. Her friends are divided and scattered, and the black swan wants Sophie to focus on THEIR projects. But her instincts are leading her somewhere else. Stellarlune-and the mysterious Elysian-might be the key to everything. But finding truth in the Lost Cities always requires sacrifice. And as the Neverseen's plans sharpen into terrifying focus, it appears that everyone has miscalculated. The Lost Cities' greatest lie could destroy everything. And in the battle that follows, only one thing is certain: nothing will ever be the same. Now, Sophie and her friends will discover the true meaning of power-and evil.

  • Setting

The places this book takes place is Havenfield, Foxfire, Everglen, San Diego, London, Ravagog, Brumevale, Elysian, Solreef, Loamnore, Neverseen Storehouse, a random cliffside, and the Shores of Solace.

Important characters

Sophie Foster, Keefe Sencen, Dex Diznee, The Diznee Triplets, Fitz Vacker, Biana Vacker, Tam Song, Linh Song, Glimmer/Rayni Aria, Mr. Forkle, Lord Cassious, Vespera, Lady Gisela, Bo, Ro, Sandor, Grizel, Woltzer, Marella, King Damitar, Elwin, Stina Heks, Timkin Heks, Kenric, Oralie, Prentice, Wylie Endal, Fintan, Lovise, Nubiti, Flori, Grady Ruewen, Edaline Ruewen, Elysian, and Trix.

  • Main Conflict & Theme

The main conflict is Sophie and her friends trying to beat the Neverseen and find Keefe. The theme is to not give up and keep trying no matter how hard it feels.

  • Meaningful Quotes

"'It's all right,' Ro told [Sophie]. 'You don't have to have it all figured out.'" This quote means something to me because it's saying that you don't have to have anything figured out and that its ok to not have things figured out.

"Keefe closed his eyes. 'So . . . it really is my fault.' 'How? You didn't ask to be part of this!' 'Yeah - but that doesn't change the fact that I am!'" This quote is meaningful to me because it's like hes apart of something he doesn't want to be apart of and he is. I know people who are to and honestly, sometimes i feel that way.

"'I'm not convinced that anyone should have to lose ANY memories,' Fintan snapped back. 'But I'm not in charge - at the moment.'" This quote means something to me because I agree that nobody deserves to lose ANY memories and sometimes I'm in charge but not always.

    Figurative Language

A piece of figurative language is the cliche, "Whoa! Back the T-Rex up!" It's kinda like saying "whoa, hold up!" in the Forbidden Cities (here).

Another piece of figurative language in the book is the simile, "[Sophie] clung to his shoulders like a Sophie-Koala." she basically tripped and clng to Keefe's Shoulders.
